The theme for worship during the month of November is “Practicing Gratitude.” Together as a family of faith, we will reflect on ways the scriptures call God’s people to practice gratitude in tangible ways, as we seek to follow our Lord Jesus Christ.
This series will begin on Sunday, November 2 with a Moravian Love Feast worship service, which is a tradition in the Moravian Christian Church. The Love Feast is rooted in the “love feasts” or “agape meals” of the early church which focused on fostering Christian love, unity, and fellowship, singing, and informal teaching. On Sunday, November 2 – Lely Presbyterian Church will celebrate our own adapted version of a Love Feast in this service of gratitude and thanksgiving. A Dixieland jazz band will assist in leading the music in worship, so we encourage you to come early and find a seat. In lieu of a sermon, church family members will share personal testimonies about their faith and gratitude.
The Moravian Love Feast grows out of the practice among early Christian believers of sharing absolutely everything in common and is a contemporary way of reminding ourselves of the unity and equality found in the faith community. Sweet bread will be shared during this service of worship and we will enjoy hot, mulled apple cider in Kemp Hall following worship.
“Now thank we all our God
with heart and hands and voices,
who wondrous things has done,
in whom his world rejoices.”
